A writing retreat for women

This off-grid weekend writing retreat for women takes place on Isle Martin, a remote island off the north-west coast of Scotland. Here you will have the chance to leave the stresses of mainland life behind and concentrate on writing for a few precious days. The amenities are simple, the island beautiful, the welcome warm. LG Thomson will be your tutor for the weekend, with a guest workshop by fellow author, Orla Broderick. You will try a variety of writing techniques and have the option of a short mentoring session. There will be time to write, time to explore the island, and plenty of time for laughter. There is no electricity here, so leave your laptops and tablets behind and bring pens and paper. There is no hot running water so bring a flannel for your wash-down. We will however, have the luxury of flushing toilets, freshly made-up beds and delicious meals made with local produce.

All meals are included and there will be a welcome glass of wine on Friday. Meals will be prepared on the island with local produce used where possible. Wine and locally-brewed ale will be available to purchase in the Mill House. As the island is run by volunteers, there will be a few light chores to share. The return boat crossing and all workshops are also included in the price of your writing retreat.

What to Bring

crime thriller

September is generally a pleasant month in the Highlands, but the weather is changeable at any time of year. Bring waterproofs, warm clothing, a full change of clothes, towels, wellies or walking boots, a head torch, a flannel and a hot water bottle. Bring swimwear if you fancy a dip in the sea. Don't forget pads and pens.

You would make Em, who deals with Isle Martin candle management, very happy if you brought some light to share in the form of a candle.
